I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. Besides being classmates at West, we were also grade school friends during our elementary years at Encanto/Clarendon. Growing up, John's family owned the cabin next to our family's in the Prescott Mountain Club. The Pucketts and Weavers spent many summer days in the Mile High City escaping the Phoenix heat. I will hold fond memories of John. May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.
I visited John and Elaine a few times in Laguna Niguel and met his kids. I found out he had been fly fishing on the Provo River but didn't know I live in Orem 5 minutes from that spot on the river. At West high we were stand-mates in the orchestra 1st violin section, I helped him build the harpsichord kit for Grand Canyon College where his dad worked. And with Mike Blake and Dave Shindell we'd go shoot out TV tubes to see them implode. At Pomona college he'd take me to the glass lab where he blew glass equipment for the chemistry department, see the chart recorder he had repurposed into a seismograph showing me on the paper where the shaking of students climbing the dormitory stairwell walls got preserved, then showed me his handcrafted brass and exotic wood view camera and tripod he built. Later, at UCLA medical school (I think), he related that while interning at an LA ER, there were many gun shot wounds, he broke a double glove, and was bed ridden with hepatitis for a month.
He was interested in everything and loved everyone. What a great friend.
I remember John from Clarendon Elementary, he had an unusual running style where he would judo chop the air with his hands as he ran. I am sorry he has passed on.
